दिल्ली नगर निगम

दिल्ली नगर निगम (MCD) की स्थापना 7 अप्रैल 1958 को संसद के एक अधिनियम के अंतर्गत हुई। इससे पहले दिल्ली नगर समिति (DMC) दिल्ली की प्रमुख नागरिक संस्था थी। तब से नगर निकाय अपने संविधान और कार्यप्रणाली में नागरिकों की बढ़ती आवश्यकताओं के प्रति सजग रहा है। अधिनियम के 1993 संशोधन ने निगम की संरचना, कार्यों, शासन और प्रशासन में मूलभूत बदलाव किए।The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) came into existence on 7 April 1958 under an Act of Parliament. Prior to that, the Delhi Municipal Committee (DMC) was the principal civic body of Delhi. Since then, the municipal body has stayed responsive in its constitution and functioning to the growing needs of citizens. The 1993 amendment of the Act brought fundamental changes to the composition, functions, governance and administration of the corporation.

त्रिविभाजन

13 जनवरी 2012 को दिल्ली नगर निगम को तीन छोटे नगर निगमों में विभाजित किया गया। नई उत्तरी दिल्ली नगर निगम और दक्षिणी दिल्ली नगर निगम में प्रत्येक में 104 वार्ड थे, जबकि छोटी पूर्वी दिल्ली नगर निगम में 64 वार्ड थे। (कालांतर में इन्हें पुनः एकीकृत किया गया।)On 13 January 2012, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi was 'trifurcated' — split into three smaller municipal corporations. The North and South Delhi corporations each contained 104 wards, while the smaller East Delhi corporation contained 64 wards. (These were later reunified.)

2011 की जनगणना के अनुसार दिल्ली नगर निगम (शहरी) की जनसंख्या 1,10,07,835 थी — जिसमें पुरुष 55% और महिलाएँ 45% थीं। औसत साक्षरता दर 87.6% रही (राष्ट्रीय औसत 74.0% से अधिक): पुरुष साक्षरता 91.44% और महिला साक्षरता 83.20%। 16 वर्ष से कम आयु की जनसंख्या 13% थी।As of the 2011 Census, Delhi Municipal Corporation (Urban) had a population of 1,10,07,835 — males 55% and females 45%. The average literacy rate was 87.6% (higher than the national average of 74.0%): male literacy 91.44% and female literacy 83.20%. Population under 16 years was 13%.
